All About Burtree House Farm and Farm Shop

Where We Take the Time – So You Don’t Have To! We are passionate about the quality of our produce, their exceptional taste and the excellence of the ingredients used.

At Burtree House Farm, Time is of the Essence
. . . TIME for our livestock to live and grow in the fields TIME for natural growth with corresponding taste and flavour TIME spent in our farmhouse kitchen to prepare foods that enhance the natural ingredients used.

A tremendous amount of care and attention goes into producing food with a natural taste - from using the finest ingredients in our puddings and cakes to taking the time and great care in how we rear our chickens and Kelly Bronze turkeys. This is so you will experience the tastes your taste buds had forgotten about!

You can shop with us at a Farmers Market we attend, or visit us at our Farm Shop. Alternatively, Mail Order is also available.

The Darlings have farmed at Burtree House Farm in green and rural County Durham on the northern outskirts of Darlington since 1963. The Farm Shop is a new enterprise and after starting with 100 hens ‘to see if we could sell a few eggs’, and now have 700 Robert and Lea have expanded into a magnificent range of home baking, and free-range chickens. They were pleased to meet the high criteria of the Kelly Family, and now the famous Kelly Bronze Turkeys are a feature of the Christmas Produce, starting with 150 three years ago there will be 450 available this year.

Farming has been a family tradition and at Burtree House Farm no less than three generations of the family are helping with this latest enterprise. As well as non-stop effort from Robert and Lea, daughter Sarah and son Andrew work hard when not at work or university, and Robert’s mother, Mary, helps in the shop as well as making some biscuits, while his father, Frank, spends a lot of time collecting eggs as well as keeping the lawns well-mown around the shop. Award-winning products are now part of everyday life.... especially with the fantastic range of mouth-watering Puddings.

Such has been there acclaim that even the famous international chef, Jean Christophe Novelli, has stated "Before I die the last thing I want to eat is Burtree's Sticky Toffee Pudding". Great food at Burtree House Farm has also been recognised by becoming one of Rick Steins 'Food Heroes'! Lea turns out endless batches of beautiful cakes – but says she couldn’t manage without Robert who makes up to 8 gallons of tea per day for the large variety of Tea Loaves!
